Definitions for “Research” and "Technical Enrichment”

Research:  An important and necessary endeavor that aimed at studying specific code related issue(s)/topics for the purpose of providing solutions to a specific problem or future code change(s) directed at improving the implementation and enforcement of the FBC.  The issue to be researched must be fully understood (i.e. with clear purpose of doing the research/goals); clearly defined with specific scope of work/approach; and within budget.

Technical Enrichment: An important and necessary endeavor that is aimed at evaluating complex related code issue(s)/topics for the purpose of providing educational/clarification experience or alternative solutions directed at improving the implementation and enforcement of the FBC.  Method of delivery for these matters is through workshop/TAC meetings with specific participation of expert(s) in subject area of concern.

Energy Technical Advisory Committee

Priority 1:        Measure temperature, humidity and CO2 levels in new homes
Priority 2:        Residential hot water distribution
Priority 3:        Residential kitchen exhaust ventilation

Mechanical Technical Advisory Committee

Priority 1:        Measure temperature, humidity and CO2 levels in new homes

Roofing Technical Advisory Committee

Priority 1:        Continuation of corrosion of roofing fasteners ( UF Proposal )
Priority 2:        Document field cases of attics sealed with spray foam insulation (Foam Proposal )

Structural Technical Advisory Committee

Project 1:         Cost difference study between the different types of shutter systems vs. an impact resistant system to understand the advantages and disadvantages of these systems. 

Project 2:         Study of corrosion, load and deterioration issues on different types of balconies

Electrical Technical Advisory Committee

Research acceptable methods for remediation of aluminum wire connections in existing/older homes in a remodeling

 

Plumbing Technical Advisory Committee 

Study pipe sizing with roof drains and the problems with roofs collapsing due to pipe failure.

Accessibility Technical Advisory Committee

Priority 1:       Consider the potential of a workshop to give guidance to help explain to the general public, builders, architects, building officials the differences that pertain to the Florida Accessibility Code for building construction and the Fair Housing Act because people are mixing and matching these two requirements without the understanding of one versus the other.

Priority 2:       Study of vehicles carrying people with accessible needs such as width of spaces and rear entry vans that put ramps down in drive aisle. 

Fire Technical Advisory Committee

Evaluate an approve method for achieving 1 hr. fire resistance rating under side of projections – focus on zero lot line – come up with details that is tested and evaluated. Evaluate an alternative to the zero lot line provisions. ( Proposal )

Code Admin Technical Advisory Committee

Project 1:    To evaluate the economic impact of the delayed code provisions

Project 2:  To estimate the cost impact of the 2015 International Building Codes changes

Swimming Pool Technical Advisory Committee

  1. Study on how many public and private pools have high voltage lighting? What   is the cost to change to low voltage and the time frame to change in the next 5 or 10 years.  ( hb 915)
  2. Study on variable frequency drive system on anything over 3 horse power  compared to a single speed motor and the cost efficiency.
