FLORIDA BUILDING COMMISSION Accessibility TAC

A quorum was not present, so no formal recommendations could be made. The following items were discussed and the TAC will proceed with efforts to make firm suggestions to the Commission.

Discussion of Possible Legislative Action : Items were identified that may need further legislative action, rule changes or modifications to the code based on scrivener's errors. Discussion will continue, but no meetings will be held other than in conjunction with regular Commission meetings.

Discussion of FDOT Detectable Warnings : An invitation to make a presentation at the next meeting will be issued to DOT staff.

Discussion of Accessibility Improvements for Hotels: It was noted that the pool gate cannot be engaged by persons with disabilities, and that while temperature control devices were mounted properly, furniture prevented some people from using them. Potential solutions were noted and will be reported to the hotel. The possibility of conducting a charette on pool access was discussed.

Discussion of Local Officials and Exceptions to Vertical Accessibility : A number of educational vehicles were defined and this will be discussed with building officials at the annual BOAF meeting. Also, a legal opinion may be requested if deemed necessary.

Discussion of Draft Legislation for Vertical Accessibility : The working group assigned for this task was dissolved and the entire TAC will pursue recommended changes.
