8. Project Status: Please check the phase of construction that best describes your project at the time of this application. Describe status.

*Briefly explain why the request has now been referred to the Commission.

The reason we are submitting this application is the building department requires an ADA ramp for commercial buildings. Unfortunately, the building does not lend itself to adapting a handicap accessible ramp.

Requirements to be Waived.

9. Requirements requested to be waived. Please reference the applicable section of Florida law. Only Florida-specific accessibility requirements may be waived.

Issue 1: Florida-specific hotel/motel rooms  Minimum height in parking structures  Accessible parking
  Vertical accessibility  Toilet rooms
  Private  Other
We are requesting a waiver of vertical accessibility due to a heavy financial burden, lack of adequate ramp space and visually unsightly on this small storefront located in the Historic District of Fernandina Beach. The business is a small dress shop of approximately 850 square feet. The shop sits very close to the sidewalk and therefore, very little space to place a 30ft ramp in the front. See Photos. Placing a ramp from the left elevation would also be very unsightly and take away from the only parking space available and hinder the Historic integrity of the property. Additionally, the cost to construct a 30 ft ramp is costly and economically not feasible. Total cost to build the ramp and concrete pad landing is approximately $8,000.00.

Issue 2: Florida-specific hotel/motel rooms  Minimum height in parking structures  Accessible parking
  Vertical accessibility  Toilet rooms
  Private  Other Need Additional Space
Issue 3: Florida-specific hotel/motel rooms  Minimum height in parking structures  Accessible parking
