SUBJECT: HB 269 – Repealing the Department’s Oversight toward the BERS

Please be advised that HB 269 repeals/eliminates the Department’s responsibility to adopt, update and maintain a statewide uniform Building Energy-efficiency Rating System (BERS), effective July 1, 2013. The bill delegates the training and certification of raters to various nationally recognized energy rating programs (Residential Energy Services Network, Commercial Energy Services Network, Building Performance Institute and Florida Solar Energy Center).

As of July 1, 2013, the Department’s training and certification program for raters will be discontinued. Therefore, we advise that BERS energy raters currently certified by the Department who would like to continue their certification contact one or more of the appropriate rating programs.
