   To recommend and discuss further
continuation of the research projects on the Corrosion of Roofing and Screen
Enclosure Fasteners and a research project on the Impact of Spray Foam
Insulation on the Durability of Plywood and OSB Roof Decking. Mark
Zehnal proposed that the research project follow Dr. Gurley’s Final Report
specific to testing for TAS 114 compliance and testing of 1 ¼ inch coil nails.
Billy Cone stated that the research project should specify imported vs.
domestic fasteners. Mark Zehnal reminded the TAC Actions: A motion
was made by Bob Boyer and seconded by Jimmy Buckner to move forward with Dr.
Gurley’s research project proposal to include knowing the country of origin
of the fasteners selected for testing and to include testing for TAS 114
Appendix E compliance, testing of 1 ¼ inch coil nails, tile fasteners, and
exposed metal panel fasteners. Unanimous approval. A presentation was given by Dr. William
Miller of Oak Ridge National Laboratory on a risk assessment of sealed attics
which have open or closed celled spray foam. In this research they are
proposing to be able to judge the danger of various attic systems. TAC Actions: A motion was made as to accept and
move forward with Dr. Miller’s proposal as long as the University of Florida
was included in the research project by Mark Zehnal and seconded by Brian Swope.
Unanimous approval. A motion was made to prioritize
the spray foam research project over the fastener research project. The
motion failed to pass. Then a motion was made to prioritize the fastener
research project over the spray foam research project. Unanimous approval. |
