Ø Objectives: The purpose of this meeting was to review Section 553.895 F.S. for possible modification to allow the use of two hour separation or other approved method for over three stories mixed use parking garages as an alternative to requiring sprinklers.

Objective

Discussion of objectives included the following: 

1)

 

11:00 AM -  Welcome and Opening, Roll Call.  A quorum was present.

Mr. Ken Cureton, facilitator, provided a brief overview of meeting protocol and procedures.

Motion and second to approve minutes from meeting of Oct. 16, 2012 with no changes; unanimous approval vote.

Motion and second to approve agenda for the meeting of Nov. 27, 2012 with no changes; unanimous approval vote.

Discussion and recommendation on the possible modification of Section 553.895 F.S.  to allow the use of two hour separation or other approved method for over three stories mixed use parking garages as an alternative to requiring sprinklers.

 

-Proponent Presentation – James Schock (proponent/Commissioner) presented the issue and provided background of relevant current code sections and rationale for the necessity of the proposed Legislative change to 553.895 F.S. 

 

-TAC Discussion  - TAC members provided input on the current statute and language in FBC 509.8 that affects the subject of this meeting, including openness, fire separation distances and fire rated separations. It was suggested by staff that the best the Commission could potentially accomplish would be to include the matter in its next annual report that is slated to be done June 2013. In addition, the TAC members expressed that the issue should be deferred until specific statutory language of this proposal can be written.
