Meeting began at 2:00pm.  Roll was called and, with a slight delay, quorum was met.  There was a motion by Jack Glenn, seconded by Craig Parrion, to accept the Agenda and July 30, 2012 minutes as posted.

2)

Mr. Madani introduced the first agenda item which was to review and accept a report from the University of Florida on the status of their research performed under the auspices of the Florida Building Commission and the Department.

Dr. Forrest Masters, PhD., P.E. and research staff provided a presentation on University of Florida interim test research on Asphalt Shingles and Roofing Tiles.  For further details, please see the attached power point presentations regarding the Tile Roof Research and Shingle Roof Research.

Interim Report for the Windborne Debris Study:

As part of the contractual agreement with University of Florida (UF) to conduct technical research for improving wind resistance of buildings, the contractor “UF research team” updated the Commission’s Hurricane Research Advisory Committee (HRAC) of the status of the current research.  Currently, UF is conducting research to evaluate the wind resistance of asphalt shingle roof systems and roof tile systems and wind-driven rain penetration resistance of buildings.  The objectives of this research are to evaluate the effects of aging on shingle roof, to understand the performance of hip and ridge attachments in strong winds, and to provide guidelines for the design and installation of building products and systems intended to prevent water ingress from wind-driven rain.  In addition to the research, UF staff reported on the on-going task to survey and investigate buildings damaged by hurricanes when and if such events would take place in the future.  At the end of the meeting, the HRAC accepted the interim reports and deemed the interim report satisfactory.

A motion to accept these reports was submitted by Jim Schock, seconded by Joe Crum.  Vote was taken via roll call with unanimous approval.

3)

Having no further commission business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 3:45pm.
