1. DCA08-DEC-194 by Dan Arlington, St. Johns County Building Department

Question 1:  The draft 2007 FBC, Section 1609.4.3 Exposure C requires a 20% increase in roof sheathing uplift and roof to wall uplift loads, in certain wind exposures.

 

Is it the intent of 1609.4.3 to increase the entire continuous uplift path by 20%?

 

Answer:  No.  In accordance with Section 1604.9 of the 2007 FBC, Building, the 20% increase is limited to components and cladding roof sheathing uplift and roof-to-wall uplift loads. 

 

Question 2:  If “Yes” to question 1, is it the intent to increase the load capacity of roof trusses by 20%?

 

Answer:  See answer to question 1

 

2. DCA08-DEC-207 by Anthony Apfelbeck, Fire Marshall/Building Official, City of Altamonte Springs

 

The petitioner requested that the response time of Chapter 120 Procedure for this Declaratory Statement be extended until June 1st 2009, with the understanding that the extension will not result in the dismissal of the Dec. 

 

3. DCA08-DEC-339 by Jose Sanchez, Fenestration Testing Laboratory, Inc.

 

The POC recommends dismissal of DCA08-DEC-339 due to the fact that the petitioner failed to provide information that was requested by the POC at the previous meeting.

 

4. DCA08-DEC-344 by Alvin Scolnik, National Electrical Manufacturer’s Association

 

The Committee requested that the Declaratory Statement DCA08-DEC-344 be deferred and taken up by a joint meeting consisting of Mechanical, Electrical and Fire TACs. In the future, any requests for Declaratory Statements on the subject need to be using the joint meeting concept.

 

5. DCA08-DEC-345 by James Reed, Southwest Progressive Enterprises, Inc

 

The Committee voted to defer DCA08-DEC-345 until the next meeting.

 

 

6. DCA08-DEC-357  by Fred S. Cardwell, P.E.

Question #1:  As an engineer in the State of Florida be required to show on his plans underlayment per code / or not show underlayment as per Atlas Roofing Corporation’s letter, which is enclosed.

 

Answer:  As per Section 1507.2.8, underlayment is required.  In addition to the manufacturer’s recommendation, the code specific requirements of Section 1507.2.8 must be met.

 

 Question #2:  Does the Utility Lawn Storage Shed need to comply with 1003.1 for minimum headroom of 80”?

 

Answer:  A utility lawn storage shed must comply with Section 1003.1 for minimum headroom of 80” when constructed in accordance to the 2004 Florida Building Code, Building and R 311.4.1 when constructed as meeting the 2004 Florida Building Code, Residential.

 

7. DCA08-DEC-359 by Michael J. Wolfe, Advanced Shelter Solutions, Inc.

 

The Committee voted to dismiss DCA08-DEC-359 as it is outside the scope for Declaratory Statements.

 

 

8. DCA08-BC-360 by Powers Steel Corporation

 

The Committee denied the request for an investigation since no valid concern was provided. Commission Gonzalez and Commissioner Carson abstained from voting. The vote was 3 to 0 against.
